Shipping & Delivery
Q: How is a puppy shipped ?
A:Shipping by Airlines
We offer shipping to all U.S. destinations and Canada. Shipping charges vary based on location and include airfare, the puppy’s shipping crate (pet taxi), a vet health certificate, and a puppy care packet. This packet contains a bag of the puppy food they are used to, along with important care information. Delivery is typically a counter-to-counter service, and puppies will travel in a pressurized, temperature-controlled compartment. The cost for airline shipping ranges from $120.00 to $200.00, depending on the destination and airline.
Shipping by Specialized Ground Service
Alternatively, you can choose to have your puppy delivered right to your doorstep via a specialized pet transport service that covers all destinations in the continental U.S. The cost for this service varies based on distance and location and is generally the more expensive option for puppy delivery.
Q: Is shipping really safe for the puppy?
A:Shipping a Shih Tzu puppy to a new location may seem daunting, but it is a safe and caring process, especially with U.S.-based airlines. With many years of experience in shipping, I can assure you that all puppies are well looked after during their journey. Airlines prioritize the well-being of the animals in their care to avoid lawsuits and customer dissatisfaction.
I attach the puppy’s food and feeding instructions to the top of the crate and include frozen water that gradually thaws during the trip. Puppies are offered food throughout the flight, which typically lasts around 4 to 7 hours. I stay informed about any delays or layovers, keeping track of the exact flight times and departures so I can provide you with updates on your puppy’s journey.
Your Shih Tzu will usually arrive on the same day it is shipped, often within just a few hours. I ensure the crate is comfortable with a cozy bed of shredded newspapers for the puppy to nestle in, along with a pig’s ear chew (which they love) and a toy or sock with my scent to help them feel secure.
Q: What about shipping in the winter is it not too cold?
A: If you choose to adopt a Shih Tzu puppy, we guarantee that he or she will arrive safe and sound. Puppies can be shipped safely in temperatures between 20 and 85 degrees, according to airline regulations. All puppies travel in the cargo hold of the plane, where the temperature is maintained at a comfortable 70 degrees, just like for the passengers. They are the last to board and the first to disembark.
Shipping during this time of year is completely safe, so there’s no need for concern. Much like a person flying to visit friends or family for the holidays, shipping a puppy is very similar—and often even a bit easier. The main difference during this season is that airlines can be strict about the minimum temperature at each location, which is beneficial for the puppies. This precaution is primarily for the airlines’ liability and the protection of the animals.
In the summertime, airlines will refrain from shipping if temperatures are too high along the route. If that happens, we will simply wait for the next suitable day to ship or adjust the timing to avoid the hottest or coldest parts of the day.
Most specialized pet shippers use temperature-regulated crates, known as electronic crates, which can maintain the optimal temperature for the puppies during travel.
Q: Can i travel to pick up my puppy?
A: Yes, you are always welcome to travel to pick up your puppy after your purchase. In most cases, flying with your puppy on the same airline incurs no additional fee beyond your personal flight cost. However, some airlines may require an extra fee regardless, so it’s best to check their specific policies before booking.
Q: I just pick up my puppy the Airport. Does she needs a Vaccines?
A:Please refrain from giving your new Shih Tzu puppy any vaccines within the first 14 days of arrival. Your puppy will be up to date on vaccinations before leaving our home and won’t require another vaccine for at least a few weeks. Many vets may suggest administering a vaccine during the initial visit to generate additional revenue, but it’s important to allow your puppy time to adjust without added stress.
However, it is essential to schedule a vet check within 48 hours of receiving your puppy for a general examination. If any health issues are identified, we will take responsibility by either providing a replacement puppy or issuing a refund if no other puppies are available at that time.
Q: Any recommendations on which VET to use?
A:Typically, small-town vets are the best choice. Word spreads quickly in small communities, so if a vet has poor practices, everyone will know. Generally (though not always), small-town vets tend to be more affordable as well. It’s a good idea to research veterinarians in your area and check consumer reviews.
IMPORTANT: Please avoid using Banfield Hospitals (part of the PetSmart chain) or VCA Hospitals. Your warranty will be voided if you take your new puppy to either of these clinics. We have seen numerous cases of misdiagnoses, over-medication, and excessively high vet bills from these facilities. They often prioritize profit over quality care.
